Privacy Policy
Last updated 17 October 2026
This policy covers the Symphony music app and the Symphony Discord bot. The short version: Symphony has no accounts, shows no ads, and does not sell or share your data. What you listen to stays with you.
The Discord bot
To play music, the bot uses:
- Messages that start with
s!, the bot's commands, such as a song name or link given tos!play. - Your Discord user ID, to show who asked for each song in the queue.
- The server, voice channel and text channel IDs, to join the right channel and post "Now playing" messages.
- Who is in the bot's voice channel, so only listeners can control the music and the bot can leave when everyone has gone.
The queue lives in the bot's memory only. It is gone when the queue ends, the bot leaves the channel, or the bot restarts. Nothing is written to a database. To spot its commands, the bot sees new messages in channels it can read. It ignores any message that doesn't start with s! and never stores messages. It does not record voice audio and does not keep a listening history.
The host running the bot may keep short technical logs, such as error messages and the names of servers the bot joins or leaves. These are used only to fix problems.
The app
- Your library, playlists, downloads, settings and the name you enter are stored on your device. Uninstalling the app deletes them.
- On Windows, if you turn on "Show what I'm playing on Discord", the current song is sent to the Discord app on your PC so it can appear in your status. You can turn this off at any time.
- The web version plays music through Symphony's server, which keeps a temporary audio cache. It is not linked to you.
Jams
In a Jam, the host's app shares what's playing with the guests: the queue (song titles, artists and artwork links), play/pause and position, and the names everyone entered. Audio is never shared. Each guest's app streams the songs itself.
- Wi-Fi Jams stay on your local network. Nothing leaves it.
- Online Jams pass these messages through Symphony's relay, which runs on Cloudflare. The relay only forwards them between the people in the Jam. It does not store or log them, and a Jam's room is gone when the host ends it. Cloudflare sees the connection, including your IP address, as it does for any website.
Services Symphony talks to
To find songs, play them and show artwork and lyrics, song names and search terms are sent to:
- YouTube, to find and play audio,
- Spotify, to read the playlists you import or link,
- Apple Music (iTunes), Deezer and LRCLIB, for song details, artwork and lyrics (the app only),
- GitHub, to check for app updates.
Their own privacy policies apply to what they receive. Symphony never sends them your Discord account or any other personal details.
Children
Symphony is not meant for children under 13, or under the minimum age to use Discord in your country.
Your choices
- Use
s!stopto clear the bot's queue at once, or remove the bot from your server to stop it using any data there. - Clear the app's data or uninstall it to delete everything it stored.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version is posted here with a new date.
